# Best HVAC Lifetime Warranty Programs Compared (2026)

By Noble Team · October 1, 2026

The best HVAC lifetime warranty for a new system is one that comes from the company installing it, covers labor on covered repairs, and is backed by an insurance company rather than a promise. That's what a Noble lifetime warranty is, and it's offered through one Noble retailer per territory. It isn't the only good coverage.

Your manufacturer's registered warranty is free parts coverage you should always claim, an extended plan from your installer can add a fixed term of labor, and a home warranty plan can make sense on an older system. Below, all four are compared on the same six questions, using each company's own published terms.

## Key takeaways

- A manufacturer warranty covers some parts, usually for 5 to 10 years, depending on the brand and on registering in time. Most brands don't pay for labor.
- Installer-sold extended plans (JB Warranties, Trinity Warranty Solutions, Prime Warranty) add labor for a fixed term. None of the three publishes a lifetime term.
- Home warranty plans renew every year, charge $100 to $150 per claim where the fee is published, and cap what they'll pay for HVAC.
- A **Noble lifetime warranty** is the only one on the market to cover labor on covered repairs for as long as you own your home and keep up the annual maintenance, at no cost to you, backed by an A-rated insurance company.
- Whatever you choose, register your equipment with the manufacturer within 60 to 90 days of installation. It's free, and missing the window can cut your parts coverage in half.

## Which HVAC warranty is best? The short answer

It depends on whether your system is new, and on how long you plan to stay in the home. Here's the whole comparison on one screen.

| Coverage | How long | Labor | What you pay | Who pays the claim | Best for |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Noble lifetime warranty, from your installing retailer** | **As long as you own your home and keep maintenance current** | **Included on covered repairs** | **Nothing for the coverage and nothing for a covered repair** | **A national, A-rated insurance company** | **A new system you want covered for as long as you own the home** |
| **Manufacturer warranty** | Usually 5 to 10 years, some parts, with registration | Not on most brands | Included with the equipment | The manufacturer | Parts, on every new system |
| **Installer-sold extended plan** | A fixed term, by plan | Yes, at a rate your installer picks | Priced into your quote or bought within 12 to 24 months | The plan's insurer | A fixed term of labor on a new system |
| **Home warranty plan** | One year, renewable | Covered repairs, after a service fee | A monthly premium plus $100 to $150 per claim | The home warranty company, up to its caps | An older system that's out of warranty |

Typical terms, from each company's own published terms as of September 27, 2026. Terms vary by brand, model, and plan.

The rest of this guide explains each row, with a link to the terms behind every number.

## How we compared the programs

We read the published warranty terms of 14 companies on September 27, 2026: seven equipment makers (Lennox, Trane, Carrier, Goodman, Rheem, Daikin, and Mitsubishi Electric), three installer-sold extended plans (JB Warranties, Trinity Warranty Solutions, and Prime Warranty), and four home warranty companies (American Home Shield, Choice Home Warranty, First American Home Warranty, and Cinch Home Services). Every figure below links to the company's own page or document. Where a company doesn't publish something, we say so instead of guessing.

We compared them on six questions a homeowner actually asks: how long it lasts, whether it pays for labor, what it covers, what it costs you, who stands behind the claim, and what you have to do to keep it.

One disclosure: Noble Administration Network publishes this guide, and the lifetime warranty in the first row is ours. That's why every other row links to its source, so you can check our work.

## Best for a new installation: a lifetime warranty from your installing retailer

A retailer-provided lifetime warranty comes with the installation. You don't buy it separately, you don't renew it, and the company that installed the system is the one that fixes it.

With a [Noble lifetime warranty](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/lifetime-warranty), covered repairs on the major internal components of your system are paid for, labor included, for as long as you own your home. It covers five kinds of system: central air conditioning, furnaces, heat pumps, ductless mini splits, and packaged systems, on new residential installations. Coverage is provided at no additional cost to you, and a covered repair costs you nothing either.

**Who stands behind it.** The coverage is backed by a national, brand-name A-rated insurance company. If Noble stopped operating, the insurer takes on the contract and handles covered claims with you directly. If the insurer couldn't, the contract passes to the guarantee fund of the state where the equipment was bought. You can read how that works in [what an insurance-backed HVAC warranty means](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/blog/insurance-backed-hvac-warranty).

**What you do to keep it.** Annual maintenance, as set out in your warranty agreement. Noble reminds you before it's due. It's the same visit that keeps any system running well, and it's the one condition on the coverage.

**When something breaks.** You call your retailer or you call Noble. Noble confirms the warranty is active and the failure is covered, a technician is booked, and the repair is priced against a pre-set standard for your state, not a number made up in your driveway. See [how a claim works](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/claims).

**The catch.** You can't buy it on your own. Noble offers it through one retailer per territory, on the systems that retailer installs, so it's something you ask for when you're getting quotes on a new system. Today Noble's retailers are in Arkansas, Missouri, and the Dallas and Fort Worth area. It also sits alongside your manufacturer's warranty rather than replacing it, so register your equipment either way.

What "lifetime" means is worth checking on any program that uses the word. Some brands use it for a single part, such as a furnace heat exchanger, and some end it when the original owner sells. We wrote up [what a lifetime HVAC warranty has to mean](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/blog/what-lifetime-warranty-means-hvac) so you can test any offer against it.

## Best for parts at no extra cost: your manufacturer's registered warranty

Every new system comes with a manufacturer's limited warranty on parts. Register it on time and most brands double the term. It's free, and it's the first thing you should do after installation.

| Brand | Parts, not registered | Parts, registered | Labor | Register within |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Lennox](https://www.lennox.com/residential/buyers-guide/why-buy-lennox/warranty/) | 5 to 10 years by product tier, no registration needed | Up to 12 years on Signature products | 3 years on eligible models, if you choose it instead of the longer parts term | 60 days |
| [Trane](https://www.trane.com/residential/en/resources/warranty-and-registration/) | Base limited warranty, parts only | Usually 10 years, up to 12 on the compressor of select units | Not covered | 60 days |
| [Carrier](https://www.carrier.com/us/en/residential/homeowner-resources/warranty/) | 5 years | 10 years parts, or 5 years parts plus 3 years labor | 3 years, only if your installer takes part in Carrier's program | 90 days |
| [Goodman](https://www.goodmanmfg.com/resources/hvac-learning-center/warranty/the-air-conditioner-limited-warranty---the-why-when-how) | 5 years | 10 years, for the original registered owner | Not covered | 60 days |
| [Rheem](https://files.myrheem.com/webpartners/ProductDocuments/E1945772-65EC-4EFC-8FF7-7098AAA323E0.pdf) | 5 years on listed models | 10 years, for the original purchaser | Not covered | 90 days, per its certificate |
| [Daikin](https://daikincomfort.com/my-daikin-systems/standard-warranty-information) | 5 years | 12 years | Not covered | 60 days |
| [Mitsubishi Electric](https://dw2p0k56b2hr9.cloudfront.net/1_PH_Residential_06012026_2514404aab.pdf) | 5 years, 7 on the compressor | 10 years, or 12 through a Diamond-level installer | Not covered | 90 days |

**What it covers.** Some parts, with registration. The longest terms usually apply to one component: many brands warrant a furnace heat exchanger for 20 years or for the original owner's lifetime, and Goodman offers a lifetime compressor warranty on select air conditioners for the original registered owner.

**What it usually doesn't cover.** Labor. Trane says plainly that labor isn't covered under its base or registered warranty, and Mitsubishi's statement reads "NO LABOR". Carrier and Lennox are the exceptions we found, each with a 3-year labor option that comes with registration and, for Carrier, with a participating installer. Labor and diagnosis can be a large share of a repair bill, and that's the gap every other kind of coverage on this page tries to fill.

**What you do to keep it.** Register within the window, keep up maintenance, and keep your records. Terms vary by model and by state: California, Florida, Georgia, and Quebec limit how registration can change the term, and some brands must transfer coverage to a home buyer in Texas and Florida. We cover the fine print in [what a manufacturer's HVAC warranty covers](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/blog/hvac-manufacturer-warranty-coverage).

## Best for a fixed term of labor: an installer-sold extended plan

Extended service agreements are sold through the company that installs your system and add parts and labor coverage for a set number of years after the manufacturer's warranty.

| Program | Longest term published | Labor | Insurance backing | Buy within |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [JB Warranties](https://jbwarranties.com/faqs) | 12 years | Yes, at an hourly rate your installer picks | Names its insurer, rated "A" | 2 years of installation |
| [Trinity Warranty Solutions](https://www.trinitywarranty.com/extended-warranty-programs/contractors) | 10 years (1, 2, 3, 5, or 10) | Parts only, labor only, or parts and labor | "A" rated insurance, insurer not named | 2 years of installation |
| [Prime Warranty](https://primewarranty.net/) | 10 years | Yes, at a rate your installer picks | A-rated carriers, not named | 12 months of installation |

**What's good about them.** They're insured, and JB Warranties and Trinity both publish that they charge no deductible. JB Warranties says all its warranties are fully transferable free of charge, which helps if you sell. Trinity lets you choose parts only, labor only, or both.

**What to check.** None of the three publishes a lifetime term, so coverage ends when the term does. Labor is paid at the rate your installer chose when the plan was set up, and JB's labor coverage has a 91-day waiting period from startup. Claims usually run through your installing company, so ask what happens if that company closes. JB says your plan stays with JB. Prices aren't published, because they're built into your installer's quote.

If you're comparing an extended plan with a lifetime warranty on the same quote, ask two questions: how many years of labor does each one pay, and who pays the claim if the company that sold it goes away? Our [comparison of HVAC warranty programs](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/blog/hvac-extended-warranty-programs-compared) lists the rest of the questions installers ask.

## Best for an older system: a home warranty plan

A home warranty is a one-year, renewable service contract you buy yourself. It can cover an older system that's past its manufacturer warranty, but it caps what it pays and charges a fee for every claim.

| Company | HVAC limit | Fee per claim | Price |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [American Home Shield](https://www.ahs.com/our-coverage/home-systems/air-conditioners/) | $5,000 per system per plan year | You choose it when you buy | "Less than $1 a day" |
| [Choice Home Warranty](https://www.choicehomewarranty.com/user-agreement/) | $3,000 per covered item per 12 months | [$100](https://www.choicehomewarranty.com/common-questions/) | Not published |
| [First American Home Warranty](https://homewarranty.firstam.com/coverage/hvac) | No total dollar cap on HVAC | Shown in your quote | [From $35 a month](https://homewarranty.firstam.com/homeowner/pricing-and-plans) |
| [Cinch Home Services](https://www.cinchhomeservices.com/) | $10,000 total per agreement term | $100, $125, or $150 | From $35.99 a month for built-in systems |

**Where it fits.** A system that's 10 or 15 years old, out of its manufacturer warranty, where you'd rather pay a monthly premium than risk a big repair. Some plans cover problems from unknown pre-existing conditions, and American Home Shield covers items without maintenance records.

**Where it doesn't.** On a new system, most of what a home warranty covers is already under the manufacturer's parts warranty, and Choice's agreement excludes labor and refrigerant for parts still under that warranty. The plan is a contract with the home warranty company, not with the company that installed your system. Choice doesn't cover known or unknown pre-existing conditions, its agreement renews at Choice's option, and there's a 30-day waiting period before coverage begins.

## How do you choose the right HVAC warranty?

Start with the age of your system, then how long you'll own the home.

1. **Getting a new system installed?** Ask every company quoting it the same question: "Is this system covered for as long as I own my home, labor included?" If one of them is a Noble retailer, the answer is yes. [Check which Noble retailer serves your ZIP code](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/warranty-check).
2. **Register the equipment within 60 to 90 days.** Whatever else you choose, this is free parts coverage you'd be giving up.
3. **Plan to move within a few years?** A fixed-term extended plan that transfers to a buyer, such as JB Warranties' plans, may suit you. Ask how the transfer works before you sign.
4. **Keeping an older system running?** A home warranty plan can cap your repair costs. Compare the HVAC limit and the fee per claim, not the monthly price.
5. **Keep the annual maintenance.** Every program on this page, including ours, ties coverage to maintaining the system. The receipts are your proof.

## Install HVAC systems? This is the warranty your quotes are missing

If you're an HVAC retailer reading this to see what your customers read, here's the part that matters to you. Noble grants its lifetime warranty to one retailer per territory, and no other company inside those lines can offer it. It brings each customer back for annual maintenance, it's backed by an A-rated insurance company, and your customer pays nothing extra for it. [Check whether your territory is still open](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/territories), read [how retailers stop competing on price](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/blog/stop-competing-on-price-hvac), or [apply in two minutes](https://www.nobleadminnetwork.com/apply).

## Questions homeowners ask

Does a new HVAC system come with a warranty?

Yes. Every major brand includes a limited warranty on some parts, usually 5 to 10 years, with the longer term when you register within 60 to 90 days of installation. Most brands don't cover labor.

Does a lifetime HVAC warranty really last a lifetime?

It depends on whose lifetime and what part. Some brands use lifetime for one component, such as a furnace heat exchanger, and only for the original owner. A Noble lifetime warranty covers the major internal components of the system, labor included on covered repairs, for as long as you own your home and keep up the annual maintenance.

Is labor included in an HVAC warranty?

Usually not in a manufacturer warranty. Trane, Goodman, Rheem, Daikin, and Mitsubishi exclude labor in their standard terms. Installer-sold extended plans and a Noble lifetime warranty include labor on covered repairs.

Is a 10-year labor warranty worth it for HVAC?

Often, yes, because labor and diagnosis can be a large share of a repair bill and most manufacturer warranties don't pay them. Compare it with any lifetime option on the same quote. Ten years of labor ends in year ten, and a lifetime warranty doesn't.

What is the $5,000 rule for HVAC?

It's a rule of thumb for repair or replace. Multiply the age of the system in years by the repair quote. If the result is more than $5,000, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing. A warranty that pays for the repair changes that math, which is why it's worth knowing what yours covers.

Is a home warranty worth it for HVAC?

It can be for an older system that's out of warranty. On a new system, the manufacturer already covers parts, and home warranty plans cap HVAC payouts, charge $100 to $150 per claim where the fee is published, and renew every year.

Do I have to register my HVAC warranty?

To get the longer term, usually yes. Lennox, Trane, Goodman, and Daikin ask for registration within 60 days, and Carrier, Mitsubishi, and Rheem's certificate within 90. Some states, including California and Florida, limit how registration can change the term.

What happens to my HVAC warranty if I sell my home?

It depends on the program. Trane transfers for $99 within 90 days of the sale, Mitsubishi's warranty doesn't transfer outside Florida, Georgia, and Texas home sales, and JB Warranties' plans transfer free if the maintenance was done. A Noble lifetime warranty covers the system for as long as you own the home. Ask your retailer for the program details.

Can I get a Noble lifetime warranty on the system I already have?

No. It comes with a new residential installation from a Noble retailer. If you're replacing a system, enter your ZIP code on our warranty check page and we'll tell you which retailer serves your area.
